Burkhard Herbote / Biographical statement

Since the 80s he has been well-known as an international "information authority". He operates a network of information contacts or correspondents around the globe. His main specializations are travel and tourism, aviation, hospitality and tourism media. He is also interested in German international relations, cultural exchanges, foreign trade, third world issues, development and human rights.
As a member of several travel, tourism, cultural and bi-national associations, Herbote writes regularly for German magazines and newspapers and makes frequent guest appearances on German radio.
Burkhard Herbote began his career in the early 80s, while still a student, by acquiring volumes of information on far-away places. During this time he attended the College of Economics in Ahlen (www.berufskolleg-ahlen.de) and worked for Krupp-Polysius AG, in Beckum (www.polysius.de) on international sales. Today, his work is recognized as one of the world's best collections of travel and tourism data, with an unique sensitivity to the world's diverse cultures. A considerable part of Herbote's archive, particularity that covering lesser-known destinations, is not available from any other source.
Burkhard Herbote is a Founding Trustee of the World Tourism Foundation (www.worldtourismfoundation.org) and has served as a Special Consultant to the UN-funded World Tourism Organization (www.world-tourism.org). Until 1999 his main work was the World Tourism Directory, published by the German academic publisher K.G. Saur Verlag GmbH & Co. KG (www.saur.de) in Munich, Germany. This was first published as the Worldwide Travel Information Contact Book by Gale Research Inc. (www.galegroup.com), Detroit, a well known U.S. publisher of research and scientific works.
Since 2001 the Africa Travel & Tourism Directory (2nd edition 2003) is available in cooperation with the British publisher World of Information.
Burkhard Herbote is also author of the Handbuch für deutsch-internationale Beziehungen (Handbook of German-International Relations), also published by K.G.Saur Verlag (www.saur.de) in Munich in association with the German Institute of Foreign Relations (www.ifa.de) in Stuttgart. Herbote also provides international information consulting through Herbote Research International. In his spare time he loves the pleasant environment of friends or to walk and relax on the German North Sea Coast (www.die-nordsee.de).

Denis Dionne / Biographical statement

Since the end of the 80s, his passion for travel and tourism pushed him
to regularly contact embassies and tourism authorities where he
developed good relationships that still last today. His main interest is
the aviation world and the airline industry, however, tourism plays also
a great part on his passions. One of its main interest is the
development of third world countries through their tourism industry.
Denis is a member of some tourism associations and has a particular
relationship with the Africa Travel Association
(www.africatravelassociation.org) for whom, he regularly writes
articles for their magazine and website.
He also regularly contributes articles to several north american travel
newspapers and magazine and help to keep the industry informed about the
latest news from the destinations.
His interest in tourism goes back to the end of the 80s were, to
develop its international knowledge, he was regularly in contact with
foreign embassies and tourism offices, acquiring brochures from those
countries to learn more about their culture, the economy and history.
Tourism was an excellent way to learn about all those beauties our
planet has to offer. He also develop relationships with airlines
timetable collectors and acquired a good knowledge of the international
airline industry from this.
Today, he works for Bombardier (www.aerospace.bombardier.com), a
canadian aircraft manufacturing company, leader in the production of
regional jets and corporate aircraft flown all over the world. He is
also working for the development of the african tourism in Canada
through, Maison de lAfrique, a small society who acts as a tourism
office for Africa in Canada. He also contribute hours to help embassies
and tourism offices from around the world to learn about the canadian
market as a consultant and regularly exhibits in travel fairs in Canada
for african nations.
He strongly believes that a better world can be develop through tourism
exchanges and this lead him to become assistant editor, in 2006, to
world famous World Tourism Directory (www.worldtourismdirectory.com),
the bible of tourism contacts written by Burkhard Herbote. He is also in
regular contact with the World Tourism Foundation
(www.worldtourismfoundation.org).
He is a travel passionate and his wife regularly joined him to explore
the world.

The Studienkreis für Tourismus und Entwicklung (Institute for Tourism and Development) concerns itself with development related information and education in tourism. In this context it edits material for publication, it organises international contests, it offers training and seminars for people employed in the tourism sector, it is active in the area of tourism research and consultancy and it is involved in the public debate on tourism development issues.
The German language "SympathieMagazine" ("magazines of understanding") inform about European and Non-European travel destinations. They want to faciliate understanding for the way of life and habits of people in a host country through interesting insights behind the touristic image, through reports about every day life, about cultural, economic, social and political phenomena. Supplementary to magazines dealing with individual countries, a few magazines focus on specific issues such as religions, the environment and the "alien", tourism.
