Development of Tourism in Cuba by the Minister of Tourism

09 October 2012 .....In 2011, Cuba reached 2,716.317 international tourists, an increased of 7.3% in comparison with the previous year. During 2011, Cuba tourism continued marking guidelines in its development: the inauguration of five new hotels with 1537 rooms, and as part of the strategy of continuing renovating and modernizing the hotel industry, 6,639 rooms where repaired, which now have a greater comfort and competitiveness. During 2012 and until April, Cuba received 1,240.784 visitors, a growth of 5.2% In 2012 we updated our policy in Tourism development, advancing in the development of new and major investments. Cuba has 58.626 rooms of which 63% are four and five stars, 71% are dedicated to sun and beach holidays, 23% to city tourism and 2% to the nature tourism. There are hotel investment plans in Viñales, Santa Clara, Remedios, Cienfuegos, Ciego de Avila,Camaguey, Bayamo,Gibara, Santiago de Cuba and Baracoa, and Trinidad is expected to build five new hotels of high standard.
